One in four Americans feel bored with their lives, according to a new study.

A Talker Research survey of 2,000 US residents found that more than a quarter – 27% – of respondents feel they have fallen into a rut and “little [of a] boring life”.

The average respondents said they fantasize about going on some kind of adventure four times each day, but only 10% said they thought they could be adventurous on any given day, the survey commissioned by Storyteller Overland for American Adventure Month in August found.

And many of the Americans surveyed said they suffer from deeper daily mental burdens than just being bored out of their minds — including anxiety (38%), fatigue (35%) and frustration (30%).

Over 60% said they are in “desperate need” to go on an adventure or trip this year.

“Looking at the data, it’s clear that Americans are craving a break from their daily routine,” said Summer Trammell, chief engagement officer at Storyteller Overland, in a statement.

Nearly half of respondents defined an adventure as anything that takes them out of their daily routine, and 30% said an experience that makes them appreciate life more.

The top three things driving Americans to seek new adventures are a desire for warmer weather, boredom with seeing the same familiar surroundings every day, and jealousy – 33% said seeing their family and friends go on trips makes them want to make one. themselves.

The online survey, conducted between July 1 and 8, also found that 42 was the perfect age to go on an adventure with 36% of respondents saying they have become more adventurous as they age.

However, an overwhelming majority of respondents – 83% – said that adventure awaits at any age.

Most Americans, regardless of generation — between baby boomers, Gen X and millennials — take four to five trips a year, they said.

And they are willing to travel far for a thrill.

On average, respondents said they would be willing to travel more than 27,000 miles to escape their daily lives a little.

Most Americans thought a six-day trip was the ideal amount of time for an adventure and ranked Hawaii as a popular destination at 18% – followed by California (16%), Florida (14%), Alaska (13%) and Colorado . (11%).

New York landed in sixth place with 10%.
